Business travelers and vacationers are facing a 2.8% increase in the average daily rate (to $130.95) for a stay in a U.S. hotel in 2018, according to projections from STR, Inc. and Tourism Economics.
Home prices continue to climb in many parts of the country. The median price for a single-family home in 2013 was $197,400. At the end of 2016, the median price for an existing family home had climbed to $233,500, according to the National Association of Realtors. Likewise, the median family annual income for such homebuyers was $70,967.
Nearly 9% of the 5.4 million American businesses with paid employees had been in business for less than two years in 2014 (the most recent year for which data was available), according to findings from the U.S. Census Bureau’s first Annual Survey of Entrepreneurs. The survey also found that there were 167,917 businesses (3.1%) with paid employees that had been in business for 16 years or more and 2.4 million (44.1%) that had been in business between 11 and 15 years.
More than one quarter of all retirement assets nationwide are held in individual retirement accounts (IRAs), according to the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI). IRAs represent the largest single repository of U.S. retirement plan assets. Recent research from EBRI finds that IRA owners who have maintained their accounts for five years had an overall average balance of $134,224 in 2014.
